It's Beginning to Feel a Lot Like Winter

A chilly four degrees this morning.  After weeks of fifty degree days, western Colorado is starting to feel winter-like.  My car had that sluggish, I-don't-want-to-start feeling when I turned the key.  Every step was a crackling of ice between my car and the classroom.

Yep.  Winter is here.

Everyone should experience a bit of real winter - and 4 deg is hardly winter.

I know! A former student of mine is teaching in Kremmling. She said it was -17 there this morning.

We don't get the dry cold here in Portland, it gets very damp and cold. I've been in both climates (I lived in Denver for 10 years, and spent a fair amount of time in the high country during that period) and I have never been as cold as I have here.

When the humidity hits the high 80s and it's 38 degrees out, I'd rather it be 20 degrees with no humidity. The cold here just grabs you and doesn't let go. I never really experienced "bone chilling cold" until I moved to Oregon. Makes me miss the winters in Colorado.
