Most of the time, I think we need the arts more than anything else. School feels flip-flopped to me: we spend our time emphasizing practicality and measurable results instead of deepening the human experience. Every time I see one of our school's plays, or go to a band concert, or attend an art department show, or watch our sports teams, I'm reminded of how much of life is not measurable on a standardized test.

The photo is from the Massachusetts Teacher Association

This pic came through my twitter stream a few month back and it had me grinning all day. Thank you for making me grin all day today, too!

Aww :) Kids really do need and understand art! Much more than they need a sheet of 40 multiplication problems.
