Technique: Writing Descriptively

Isn't it great how blogs can become running conversations? In response to my posts on writing the last couple of days, bg_editor  has put up a really good essay on Writing Descriptively

I love examples, and he gives good ones.

You are welcome. It helps me to work out my thoughts on these matters, which is mostly what teaching is about for me when it's going well. If I think I know the answers completely, I get bored.

James, be sure not to miss Eric Knight's great reply in the same thread, all about the use of To Be verbs. Great advice. All I talked about was using strong action verbs; I bypassed the weak verbs entirely. He rightly points out some great uses of the to be verbs, and I've never seen a discussion of them presented so well.
